  11. The HP 5000 is HP's next generation high-speed, production capacity
  12. printer family for HP 3000 and HP 9000 systems.  Key advantages of the
  13. F100 offers over the 2680 are:

  15.   1. Better print resolution (300 vs 180 dots per inch)
  16.   2. Higher capacity (100 pages/minute vs 45 pages/minute)
  17.   3. PCL 4 print language providing more applications, up-to-date
  18.      formatting tools, and LaserJet compatibility
  19.   4. Operating cost savings (when replacing 2 or more 2680s)
  20.   5. Variety of pre- ,and post-processing options (Q1 calendar 1993)
  21.   6. Higher availability due to remote support and less frequent PMs
  22.  
  23. The F100 provides an excellent upgrade for 2680 sites looking to upgrade
  24. in performance.  However, unlike electronics-intensive system processing
  25. units, printer technology is mature and highly mechanical, and as a
  26. result, has not realized the same cost reductions as computer
  27. systems.

  29. The F100 solution is about twice the price of the 2680, but is twice the
  30. performance and offers many attractive features.  For customers seeking
  31. to replace a single 2680 at the end of it's life, but not needing
  32. higher speed or capacity, the F100 will be a relatively expensive
  33. solution.  We are evaluating possible "mid-range" printer technologies
  34. that might be available in FY 94 which would better address the needs
  35. of these customers.
